Migrating to a New iPad with iCloud

Migrating to a New iPad with iCloud

This page will walk you through backing up your old iPad and restoring that backup to your new iPad using iCloud.

Back up Old Device to iCloud

These instructions will walk you through backing up your device to iCloud.

  1. Go into the Settings app.
  2. At the top, select your name. If you are not logged into iCloud, your name will not be there, and you will need to log in.
  3. Select iCloud.
  4. Scroll down to iCloud Backup and select it.
  5. Check to see if iCloud Backup is on and when it last ran. You can manually back up by selecting Back up Now.
  6. Note: If you do not have enough space to do this, you will need to either pay for more space or use iTunes to migrate. Another option is to log out of your personal iCloud account and log into your managed Apple ID. If you want to do that, call the IT Department for help.

Restoring an iCloud Backup to Your New iPad

  1. Go through the setup on your device, selecting LCSD2 Secure as your wifi network and using your IC credentials to log in.
  2. Once you get to the screen asking you how you would like to set up your iPad, select Restore from iCloud Backup.
  3. Sign into the same iCloud account that you backed your old device up to.
  4. When asked, choose a backup. Make sure that it’s the correct one by checking the date and size of each.
  5. You may need to log into any other iTunes accounts you have purchased apps with.
